Describe the Composition of the Earth’s Atmosphere | Earth Reminder

To understand weather, we must first understand the “containers” it lives in. The atmosphere isn’t a single block of air; it is a series of distinct layers—the Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, and Thermosphere—each with its own temperature profile and chemical composition.

At Canavu Starline, our data analysis focuses heavily on the Troposphere (where all weather happens) and the Tropopause (the “ceiling” of our weather). By measuring the lapse rate—the rate at which temperature decreases with height—we can predict atmospheric stability. If the lapse rate is steep, we expect thunderstorms; if it’s shallow, we expect calm skies.

Check out our Unit 1 Lecture for a deep dive into the Lapse Rate formula and the Adiabatic process.
